Dr. Laura E. Henderson Kelley, MD, MPH

Associate Dean for Diversity and Inclusion Assistant Professor of General Internal Medicine and Pediatrics University of Missouri School of Medicine

Dr. Laura E. Henderson Kelley is the Associate Dean for Diversity and Inclusion and an Assistant Professor of Internal Medicine and Pediatrics at the University of Missouri School of Medicine.  She obtained her medical degree from Wayne State University School of Medicine in Detroit, Michigan and did residency training in Internal Medicine and Pediatrics at the Detroit Medical Center.  She later received her Master’s in Public Health degree at Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health in 2009.  

Before coming to the University of Missouri, Dr. Henderson Kelley worked for a private health system in Hagerstown, Maryland.  There she was a partner in a 6 physician Internal Medicine/Pediatric group for 5 years before becoming Medical Director of the health system’s 3 Urgent Care centers.  In Maryland she was very active in school health and helped create and open 2 School Based Health Centers in Boone and Frederick counties. Dr. Henderson Kelley was also active at the state level becoming a board member on the Maryland Board of Physicians.  She served on the board for 6 years, serving as Secretary for 2 years and Vice Chair for 2 ½ years.  She also served as the Chair of the board’s Case Resolution Committee helping resolve board cases to avoid going before an Administrative Law Judge. 

Dr. Henderson Kelley came to the University of Missouri School of Medicine in 2014.  In addition to her clinical practice which also involves teaching resident physicians, she has an interest in helping create a physician workforce that is diverse and capable of addressing the needs of all patients.  In 2017 she co-founded the Pathways to Success (PAWS) program, an undergraduate pipeline program that assists underrepresented minority and economically disadvantaged University of Missouri undergraduates prepare a competitive candidacy for medical school.
