Event: The Science of Care Giving Teleconference

Debra Parker Oliver is a Professor in the School of Medicine, Department of Family and Community Medicine at the University of Missouri
Debra has a Masters of Social Work and PhD in Rural Sociology from the University of Missouri. Prior to getting her PhD she was the founder of Hands of Hope Hospice in St Joseph Missouri as well as service as a Hospice Director in two additional hospices years for a total of more than 20 years. Debbie is a former President of the Missouri Hospice and Palliative Care Association and a founding member and former Chair of the Missouri End of Life Coalition. After getting her doctorate she continued her commitment to the improvement of hospice care through research. She has nearly 100 peer -reviewed articles and several book chapters related to end of life and hospice care. She is currently the Principle Investigator of the NIH funded ACTIVE intervention study, seeking to empower hospice caregivers as they participate in hospice interdisciplinary team meetings through web conferencing. She is also the Co-Investigator on a second NIH funded intervention study using technology to teach hospice caregivers to use problem solving strategies to cope with care giving concerns.
Participants will be able to:
- Report on increase in knowledge about the effect care giving has on individuals.
- Identify promising interventions to improve the care giving experience
- Identify opportunities for hospices and palliative care programs to assist caregivers and improve the care giving experience.
The price for this Teleconference is $80.00 for members and $100.00 for non-members.

This teleconference will be recorded. If you are not able to attend on the day of the teleconference, please register like you are attending and MHPCA will send you the recording.
This program provides 1.5 MO Nursing Contact Hours. This program provides 1.5 Social Worker Hours. All Social Workers must complete a post test and return to MHPCA via fax (573-635-0659) or email to firstname.lastname@example.org to receive SW CE hours. Participants from Missouri interested in credit hours should indicate on the sign in sheet from each hospice their desire to receive credit hours. There will be an additional $10.00 per person for contact hours. Please make checks payable to MHPCA (P.O. Box 105318, Jefferson City, MO 65110) with a copy of your sign in sheet to receive credit for participants. All participants wanting CE credits must sign the sign in/sign out sheet, fill out an evaluation, complete a post test (Social Worker’s only) and return to MHPCA at the end of the Live Interactive Teleconference via fax (573-635-0659) or email to email@example.com. The certificate will be generated and sent to the contact on the sign in/out sheet via email with in 5 business days.
